Theatre Etiquette
We want every visit to the Opera House to feel warm and welcoming, for you and everyone around you. A little consideration goes a long way in our intimate space, so here are a few friendly reminders to help the evening go smoothly for all our guests.
If something is bothering you during a performance, please don't hesitate to find a member of our staff. We're happy to help.
Being a Great Neighbor
The Sumter Opera House is an intimate space, which means a little extra courtesy goes a long way toward everyone having a great night.
Timing Your Entrances and Exits
If you need to step out, intermission or a natural break in the performance is the best time to do it. It keeps things smooth for everyone around you.
Little Ones Welcome
Kids are always welcome at the Opera House! If a young patron needs a moment to reset, feel free to step into the lobby and rejoin when they're ready.
Quiet, Please!
Once the show starts, please silence or turn off cell phones and keep conversation to a minimum. Your neighbors (and the performers!) will thank you.
Save it for Intermission
Texting and scrolling can wait. The glow from a phone or tablet is easy to spot from a few rows back and can pull focus from the stage.
Keeping it Tidy
Snacks and drinks from the concessions stand are welcome in your seat. Just take your trash with you when you go, or drop it in one of the bins around the venue.
Cameras & Recording
Some performances allow photos, others don't. We'll always let you know with signage or an announcement before the show. If photography is permitted, please turn it off the flash; it's tough on performers' eyes.
Mailing List
The Sumter Opera House maintains an e-mail mailing list comprised of only those individuals who have specifically requested to receive updates.
